A Quiet Place 2 is officially happening as Paramount has slated the sequel for a 2020 release.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the sequel to this year’s surprise hit, A Quiet Place, is set to hit theaters on May 15, 2020. John Krasinski, who both starred in and directed A Quiet Place, is currently penning the sequel. And while he has yet to officially sign on as director, it’s expected that he’ll return to helm the follow-up as well.

Given how the first film ended, it remains unclear where Krasinski will take the next installment. It’s entirely possible the film will pick up with Emily Blunt’s character, who is now a widow following the death of her husband, as she tries to survive with her three children. Or, as Krasinski previously teased, perhaps the sequel will instead focus on another family altogether. “Where my mind kept wandering as we were making it, was the question of who was on the other end of those fires, when the father lights the fire and in the distance those other fires light up. How did those people survive? How did that old man survive?”

A Quiet Place was not only a success among critics and fans alike, but it also proved to be quite the phenomenon at the box office, taking in an astounding $332 million worldwide on a reported $17 million budget. Plans for a sequel were announced shortly after its premiere, with Krasinski’s involvement in the sequel not confirmed until a couple of months later.

Krasinski also served as director, as well as co-writer on the film along with Scott Beck and Bryan Woods, who are seemingly not returning to help pen A Quiet Place 2.
