Peyton Reed, director of Marvel’s Ant-Man and the Wasp, has revealed that a guest appearance from Captain America himself was considered in early versions of the script, as reported by RadioTimes.
Lighthearted and quirky, the Ant-Man movies feature characters who don’t take themselves too seriously. Paul Rudd’s shrinking/growing hero Scott Lang is surrounded by a posse of his fellow ex-cons, including Luis, played by Michael Peña. For many fans, the best running gag in the films comes from Luis’s tendency to describe past events in lengthy, rambling monologues, which are given a visual aid from the other actors playing out their parts in his memory and lip-syncing to his lines.

In Ant-Man and the Wasp, Luis gets his recap moment to hilarious effect, but apparently, there was originally a plan to make the scene even more epic. According to Reed: “Early on, we had a version where we were going to do a quick version of the tarmac fight from Civil War, with some ridiculous thing where, you know, Captain America has Ant-Man as a baseball and throws him. Because the whole thing is Luis’ version of events, right?”
Chris Evans as Steve Rogers has made surprise appearances in other Marvel Cinematic Universe movies – the character’s fame in-universe means that others are likely to make references to him or watch his PSA videos, as in Spider-Man: Homecoming (2017).

Ultimately, though, it was decided that the cast of Ant-Man and the Wasp should stand on its own, without cameos crossing over from other movies. “It kind of felt like we’d referenced Captain America: Civil War so much,” said Reed. “Let’s just do our own thing there.”
