The film follows the beloved children’s television character Dora as she transitions from exploring jungles with her parents to traversing high school with her friends, Diego and Boots the monkey. But when her parents go missing while investigating a strange Incan temple, Dora will have to head out with her friends old and new to try and rescue them. There’s no word yet as to whether Dora’s talking backpack and map will also make the transition to live-action.

The rest of the cast includes Eugenio Derbez (How to be a Latin Lover), Micke Moreno (Ojitos Hechiceros), Adriana Barraza (The Strain), Temuera Morrison (Moana) and Madeleine Madden (Tidelands).

Debuting in 2000, Dora the Explorer is an animated series about an adventuring girl, who, together with her monkey Boots, her backpack Backpack and her cousin/adventuring partner Diego, travels the world and teaches kids Spanish. Dora is heavy on audience interaction, famously encouraging kids to call out to the screen.

Directed by James Bobbin (The Muppets), the live-action Dora the Explorer is filming in Australia for a planned Aug. 2, 2019, release.
