The SOC Award for TV went to ‘Stranger Things.’
For his kinetic work on Edgar Wright’s Baby Driver, Roberto De Angelis earned camera operator of the year honors in features, during the Society of Camera Operators Awards, Saturday at the Loews Hollywood Hotel. Additionally, Bob Gorelick won the SOC award for camera operator of the year in television, for his work on Stranger Things.
During the ceremony, the SOC honored Meryl Streep with its President’s Award, AMPAS president and cinematographer John Bailey with its Governors Award, and Denny Clairmont with its Distinguished Service Award.
Lifetime Achievement Awards were presented to camera operator Scott Sakamoto (The Revenant), mobile camera platform operator Dan Pershing (The Jungle Book), camera technician John Connor and still photographer JoJo Whilden.
DJI’s Ronin 2 received a technical achievement award.
De Angelis topped a field of nominees that also included Colin Anderson for Phantom Thread; Stephen Campanelli for Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri; Gilles Corbeil for The Shape of Water and Mitch Dubin for The Post. Additional television nominees included Daryl Hartwell for Fargo; Gary Jay for House of Cards; Brian Osmond for Mindhunter and Ben Semanoff for Ozark.
