Chris Hemsworth catapulted into international stardom after appearing as the MCU’s Thor in 2011. Since then, the Australian actor has reprised his superhero role in two additional solo films but Hemsworth finds one of the three films as middling at best.
While being interviewed by GQ, Hemsworth reflected on his three solo films as the God of Thunder dismissing one of the installments for portraying his character as too safe and traditional compared to other entries.

“The first one is good, the second one is meh,” observed Hemsworth. “What masculinity was, the classic archetype, it just all starts to feel very familiar. I was so aware that we were right on the edge.”
With his reservations about 2013’s Thor: The Dark World in mind, Hemsworth deliberately chose to go a different direction reprising the role for 2017’s Thor: Ragnarok. For the third solo Thor film, the actor consciously made the superhero closer to his own sensibilities while adding more humor and humanity to the character, subverting traditional expectations of masculinity.

In addition to starring in the three Thor solo films, Hemsworth has reprised his MCU role in all three Avengers films and appeared in a cameo during the mid-credits scene for 2016’s Doctor Strange. While he is currently filming Sony’s Men in Black spinoff in London, Hemsworth can next be seen returning as the God of Thunder in next year’s Avengers 4.
