Chucky Co-Star Jennifer Tilly's Not Loving The Idea Of This Child's Play Remake

The trailer for the new Child's Play remake went online this morning, but not everybody is excited about the new film. Jennifer Tilly, who voiced the demonic doll Tiffany in several of the sequels to the original Child's Play has come out today to make her voice heard on the subject of the remake/reboot and, needless to say, she's not happy with the idea, even creating her own hashtag against the new movie. Check it out.

Remakes and reboots are always a touchy subject. As they seem to be coming with more frequency than they used to, it's become all that much bigger a topic. While we knew that a remake of the original Child's Play was on the way, it became real this morning with the release of the first trailer. Many fans of the original film have been crying foul ever since the project was announced. The creator of the original character had already disavowed the remake, and now one of the franchise's biggest stars is doing the same.

Of course, that's part of the issue with the new remake is that Don Mancini, the man behind the doll, is actually creating a new TV series that will seemingly be set within the same universe as the previous (current?) film series. The last film, Cult of Chucky, is less than two years old, which makes the remake seem a little soon, even by modern Hollywood remake standards, but there you go.

This means we could end up with a pair of competing Chucky franchises, one on the big screen and one on the small. If there's a fear of divided loyalties, that could certainly be part of the reason that those associated with the existing franchise are coming out so strongly against the new version.

Many fans have responded to Jennifer Tilly's tweet and picked up the hashtag Not My Chucky as well. There clearly is a strong contingent of Child's Play fans who aren't exactly thrilled with the coming remake.

The horror genre seems to be especially prone to the reboot bug. Major slasher franchises like Friday the 13th and A Nightmare on Elm Street have seen attempts at reboots in the past. Pet Semetary is going to see a new version later this year as well. Even IT, which the Child's Play trailer wants to be sure you know has the same producers, had been done before, though not on the big screen. It was really only a matter of time before the homicidal doll got the treatment.

While a lot of people are clearly less than thrilled by the remake, there are probably also those who aren't as committed to the original movie and will give the remake a shot. Whether or not that second group is big enough to counteract the first I suppose we'll discover when the new Child's Play arrives in June.
