Godzilla: The Planet Eater Anime Unleashes First Trailer

The third and final installment of Toho’s Godzilla anime trilogy is less than a month away from its theatrical release in Japan and the first trailer for the film has been unveiled by the studio.

The sequel to this year’s Godzilla: City on the Edge of Battle and last year’s Godzilla: Planet of the Monsters has humanity seek to regain Earth from the iconic kaiju by any means necessary. In a final act of desperation, the survivors of the previous film summon the planet-killing King Ghidorah to rid themselves of Godzilla once and for all.

Featuring a mix of traditional animation and CGI, the third anime film has a much more serpentine incarnation of the three-headed, golden kaiju as it battles Godzilla for the fate of Earth and humanity.

First announced by Toho in August 2016, the anime trilogy depicted the King of Monsters as a destructive, extinction-level antagonist as it originally appeared in its 1954 live-action debut. With humanity summoning King Ghidorah to finish the fight, the survivors may have just brought forth the one monster even more lethal than anticipated.

Helmed by returning directors Kobun Shizuno and Hiroyuki Seshita, Godzilla: The Planet Eater is voiced by Mamoru Miyano, Takahiro Sakurai, Tomokazu Sugita, and Yuki Kaji. It is scheduled to be released in Japan on November 9. The first two installments of the anime trilogy are currently available to stream on Netflix.
