Joe Jackson Has Died At 89

Joe Jackson, the talent manager best known for being the patriarch and founder behind The Jackson 5, is no longer with us. After his battle with terminal cancer, which hospitalized him earlier this month, the father of Janet Jackson and the late Michael Jackson passed away early Wednesday morning in Los Angeles. He was 89 years old. Jackson was joined by his wife, Katherine, along with several of his children and grandchildren at the time of his death.

As it was reported by family members close to Joe Jackson, and noted by TMZ, Jackson had no shortage of health problems in his later years, including a stroke and three heart attacks in 2015. It was also known among his close friends and relatives that he was living his final days this week. Joe Jackson had 10 children with his wife, Katherine, and they were married for 60 years. He also had a daughter, Joh'Vonnie Jackson, with Cheryl Terrell.

Katherine and Joe did not live together during his final years, however -- though they were frequently in acquaintance with a reportedly strained relationship. The children they shared together include Maureen, Sigmund, Tito, Jermaine, La Toya, Marlon, Brandon (who passed away shortly after childbirth), the aforementioned Michael Jackson, Randy, and Janet Jackson.

This news comes shortly after Joe Jackson's granddaughter, Paris Jackson, claimed her grandfather's Twitter account was not run by him. The actress/activist was referencing a tweet that claimed that Joe had "seen more sunsets than I have left to see," with an accompanying picture of Joe Jackson looking out into the sunset. In hindsight, that tweet is rather ominous in nature, given today's revelation, even though it wasn't reportedly written by the late talent manager. In any case, it will nevertheless serve as a fitting farewell to Joe Jackson, as it was his last post on social media.

Joe Jackson helped build the careers of Michael Jackson, Janet Jackson and the Jackson 5 with a good bit of help from Diana Ross. Beyond his career accomplishments, which also includes being inducted into the Rhythm & Blues Hall of Fame in 2014, Joe Jackson was also at the center of some controversy with his late son, Michael.

We send our condolences to the friends and family of Joe Jackson for their recent loss. We'll keep you posted with additional updates here at CinemaBlend.
