Mike Colter says he tries to stay out of the way when it comes to booking guest stars on his hit Netflix show ... but made an exception for former Prez Barack Obama.
We got the "Luke Cage" star at LAX Friday ... he tells us the plethora of celeb cameos on the show is the work of its creator, Cheo Hodari Coker, but Mike seemed to have a solid recruiting pitch ready to go for 44.
As we've reported, the Obamas locked a huge deal to produce content for Netflix -- and Michelle's been having power lunches with A-list stars -- but Colter thinks Barack would be a hit as an actor ... in a role he's not used to playing.
Mike also gives us some Netflix insider info ... and it's pretty hard to believe.
