Netflix Exec Says There’s ‘Always’ Discussion of More Marvel Spinoffs

Movies

Marvel and Netflix first joined forces back in 2013 to bring fans four shows — Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, and Iron Fist — along with a mini-series in The Defenders. Since then, the streaming giant has not only granted additional seasons to nearly all of the original shows, but it has also ordered a spinoff with the Jon Bernthal-led The Punisher. However, it appears as though another spinoff could be joining the lineup at some point.

During Netflix’s presentation at the Television Critics Association today, Cindy Holland, the vice president of original content for Netflix, confirmed that there are “always” ongoing discussions for more spinoffs. Although, she didn’t specify which characters may or may not be considered for said spinoffs.

Holland’s comment comes at a time when fans have been eagerly championing for a Daughters of the Dragon series, especially as the duo is set to (officially) join forces in the upcoming second season of Iron Fist. While Netflix and Marvel are no longer looking to set new projects, thanks to Disney’s plans of launching its own streaming service, the streaming service is still able to make new shows featuring characters from its current Marvel lineup. While Daughters of the Dragon appears to be the next logical spinoff, especially given the popularity of Misty Knight and Colleen Wing, there’s also the possibility of a Hellcat spinoff, as well as a Heroes for Hire spinoff, should the streaming service opt to give fans the team-up they’ve been asking for since The Defenders.

For now, nothing is official. However, fans should be excited knowing that there are still possibilities for more spinoffs.

Next up for the Netflix corner of the Marvel universe is Season 2 of Iron Fist. The show stars Finn Jones as Danny Rand, Jessica Henwick as Colleen Wing, Sacha Dhawan as Davos, Tom Pelphrey as Ward Meachum, Jessica Stroup as Joy Meachum, Simone Missick Misty Knight and introduces Alice Eve as Mary Walker. Season 2 will arrive Sept. 7 on Netflix.
