Netflix's To All The Boys I've Loved Before Trailer Is Charming And Sweet

The romantic comedy genre has arguably seen better days and has dwindled quite a bit over the last few years. In the 1990s, you virtually couldn't throw a stone without hitting one, but in recent years, the number of rom-coms released at the studio level has plummeted. Fortunately for fans of the genre, Netflix has got your back and has been staging a mini-revival of sorts. This can be seen on full display in the trailer for To All the Boys I've Loved Before, a YA love story that looks full of the charm and sweetness one is looking for from rom-coms. Check it out, below.

To All the Boys I've Loved Before is based on the best-selling 2014 novel of the same name by Jenny Han. The story follows Lara Jean, a sixteen-year-old half-Korean, half-Caucasian girl who has written a love letter to every boy she's ever had a serious crush on. However, Lara Jean has never sent any of these letters and keeps them hidden in her bedroom. One day, Lara Jean discovers that someone has sent each of the letters to her crushes, resulting in pretty much one of the most terrifying experiences of her young life.

The movie version stars Lana Condor (X-Men: Apocalypse) and is directed by Susan Johnson, with a script by Sofia Alvarez. The rest of the cast is rounded out by Janel Parrish, Anna Cathcart, Noah Centineo, Israel Broussard, and John Corbett. The trailer looks heartwarming as hell and will hopefully satiate all the fans of teen romance out there. Though, I will say that it's a very odd decision to save the whole premise of the movie until the very ending of the trailer.

To All the Boys I've Loved Before is the first in a trilogy of books, meaning that Netflix could have the beginnings of a franchise on its hands. Considering that possible part of the reason rom-coms disappeared in the first place was that younger generations arguably had trouble relating to them, this teen-centric film appearing on a streaming platform could be very successful. Netflix has seen success with other young adult material like 13 Reasons Why and American Vandal, so the streaming giant knows where its audience is.

To All the Boys I've Loved Before will release on Netflix on August 17, 2018. For everything that you should be watching on Netflix next month, here's a list of movies that you won't want to miss.
