Pennyworth TV Series Has Cast Its Main Villain

With the principal photography on EPIX’s live-action DC Comics adaptation Pennyworth expected to begin next week, the prequel series has just cast the principal antagonist for its debut season.

Paloma Faith (The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus) has been cast as Bet Sykes, a sadistic and sharp-tongued villain for the former SAS soldier.

The ten-episode first season is expected to begin principal photography on Monday in London for a premiere sometime next year.

Showing the untold early days of Bruce Wayne’s future butler Alfred Pennyworth, the upcoming series takes place in 1960s London and follows the titular character fresh out of the British military and forming his own private security company with Bruce’s eventual father Thomas Wayne.

Produced by Warner Horizon Television, the Warner Bros. Television division behind such dramas as Krypton, Animal Kingdom and Longmire, Pennyworth will reunite Heller with Gotham‘s Danny Cannon, who will executive produce and direct the pilot. Heller will write and executive produce. The series stars Jack Bannon as its title character with Ben Aldridge as Thomas Wayne, Paloma Faith as Bet Sykes, Ryan Fletcher as Dave Boy, and Hainsley Lloyd Bennett as Bazza.
