It was previously reported that the upcoming X-Men: Dark Phoenix was set to undergo extensive reshoots that would span three whole months. However, it has now been revealed that this initial claim was false, and that Dark Phoenix‘s reshoots will, in fact, only span about two-and-a-half weeks.
Original reports claimed that Dark Phoenix was in need of reshoots following a series of test screenings, which caused the film be to be pulled from its original November 2018 release date and pushed back until February 2019 (alongside The New Mutants, which was also pushed back.) It now seems that the two-and-a-half weeks of reshoots are simply meant to polish the film, whereas the initial report of three-month-long reshoots seemed to imply that the film was in for a complete revamp.

According to Collider, the two-and-a-half week reshoots will add additional scenes to the film’s third act, add more scenes throughout and include shots for existing scenes.
Moreover, it’s unsurprising that these reshoots are necessary in the first place, seeing as how some of Dark Phoenix‘s key players have also been busy with other projects. Sophie Turner, who plays the titular Phoenix, has been busy filming the final season of Game of Thrones. Meanwhile, James McAvoy (Professor X) and series newcomer Jessica Chastain are currently shooting IT: Chapter Two.

No matter the case, those previously worried about the nature and implications of Dark Phoenix‘s reshoots can rest easy for the time being.
X-Men: Dark Phoenix will be released on Feb. 14, 2019.
