There are many things the Shazam! movie needs to get right, not the least of which is teenager Billy Batson’s transformation into Earth’s Mightiest Mortal, triggered by a magic word: “Shazam!”
That change, brought about by a bolt of lightning, was one of the highlights of the teaser trailer, released Saturday during Comic-Con International. Now, director David F. Sandberg is giving fans a look at his storyboards for that key moment.

Sandberg joked about the quality of his art, adding this sequence was drawn “before we hired professional storyboarders.” The filmmaker teased that this moment from the trailer is not his favorite Billy/Shazam transformation in the film. “Maybe that one will be in a future trailer,” he wrote on Instagram.
Sandberg also clarified on Twitter that “none of the vfx” in the trailer is final. “Things might be look different in the final film,” he cautioned. “That’s definitely a shot that will continue to be tweaked.”
