Spider-Man: Homecoming Actor May Be Teasing DC’s Mister Miracle Role

Movies

Logan Marshall-Green, who played the Shocker in Spider-Man: Homecoming, posted an image of DC’s Miracle Man to his Instagram account Thursday night, fueling speculation that he may be hinting at a role in director Ava DuVernay’s New Gods movie.

The actor, who’s also known for his roles in Prometheus, Alien: Covenant and The Invitation, posted a detail of artist Mitch Gerads’ cover for Mister Miracle #3, accompanied by the hashtags #mrmiracle, #newgods and, perhaps most telling, #dceu.

Introduced in 1971 by legendary artist Jack Kirby when he came to DC from Marvel Comics, the New Gods are the super-powered inhabitants of twin planets, the idyllic New Genesis and the hellish Apokolips. Intended by Kirby as part of sci-fi modern mythology, many of the characters — chief among them, Mister Miracle, Darkseid, Big Barda and Orion — have become mainstays of the DC Universe.

Mister Miracle is at the center of the morality story that is the New Gods saga. Scott Free is the son of New Genesis ruler Highfather, who agreed as part of a peace treaty with Darkseid to exchange their children. Highfather took in Orion, and Darkseid took Scott Free in his place. While the teachings of Highfather tempered the rage inside Orion, Scott never broke under Darkseid’s rule. Instead, he escaped (alongside his new love, the Fury known as Big Barda), and became Mister Miracle. The character now stars in the Mister Miracle series by Gerads and writer Tom King.

DuVernay (Selma, A Wrinkle in Time) is in the early stages of pre-production for her adaptation of The New Gods.
