In a surprise moment, the halftime performer performed a duet alongside a projected Prince.

Justin Timberlake lit up the Super Bowl halftime performance purple with the help of Prince.

After delivering an upbeat montage of his hits, Timberlake surprised the audience with a special appearance by the late Prince via a projected screen. Playing the piano along to a medley of his hit “End of Time” and Prince’s “I Would Die 4 U,” the projected video clip showed Prince in concert, appearing as if he was singing a duet with Timberlake.

To further pay homage to the late singer, the camera spanned to the arena’s surrounding area lit up in purple. After the bit, Timberlake asked everyone to raise two fingers in the air to honor the singer.

Timberlake’s controversy-free halftime performance marked 13 years since the singer’s previous appearance alongside Janet Jackson.
