Wonder Woman 1984 Adds Indian Actor Soundarya Sharma

Movies

While Warner Bros. is gearing up for the upcoming releases of Aquaman in December and Shazam! in April 2019, the DC Extended Universe is already getting ready for the the epic return of the Amazon Princess in Wonder Woman 1984. The film is currently in the midst of shooting and, while much of the details of the sequel are still unknown to us, we do know that the main antagonist of Wonder Woman 1984 will be Barbara Minerva, aka Cheetah, who will be played by Saturday Night Live alum Kristen Wiig.

On top of that, we also know that Narcos and Kingsman: The Golden Circle actor Pedro Pascal has joined the cast of the film, however in a role that is being kept under wraps. Similarly, and quite curiously, Chris Pine is also returning in the sequel, despite Steve Trevor making the ultimate sacrifice in 2016’s Wonder Woman. While his return has been confirmed, the details surrounding it are a mystery — and the secrecy doesn’t stop there.

The Hindu reports that Indian actor Soundarya Sharma has been cast in Wonder Woman 1984 in a role that is, perhaps unsurprisingly, also being kept under wraps. “This I can say is a ‘dream coming true’ situation,” Sharma said to Indo-Asian News Service. “It’s exhilarating to be a part of such a larger than life character film where you get to play your dream role. I have always dreamt of playing such a character and idolised it.”

While she doesn’t reveal who she is playing, Sharma mentioning that she will get to play a “dream role” is certainly telling. Given the secrecy surrounding the role, it’s likely that the actor will be bringing to life a character known to comic book fans. Perhaps we’ll know more when Sharma begins filming this October.

Once again directed by Patty Jenkins, Wonder Woman 1984 is set to take place, as the title implies, in the year 1984, which is almost 70 years after the events of the first film. Earlier this summer, Jenkins and star Gal Gadot revealed that the movie will not be your traditional sequel, but rather a film that builds from its predecessor to go into a different territory.
