WWE’s Johnny Gargano Teases Venom-Inspired Look for NXT TakeOver

Ahead of Sunday’s SummerSlam event in New York City, the WWE is hosting NXT TakeOver: Brooklyn 4, featuring stars from its NXT developmental brand. The main event will see Tommaso Ciampa defend the NXT Championship in a Last Man Standing Match against his former friend and tag team partner, Johnny Gargano.

This will mark the third NXT Takeover Ciampa and Gargano have faced off against one another, and each of the previous two encounters saw Gargano don ring gear based on a Marvel Studios superhero. For tonight’s epic showdown, Gargano has teased a look inspired by the star of Sony’s upcoming superhero movie, Venom.

The post to Gargano’s Instagram account includes a video displaying his signature emoji face. However, as the video plays, the image transforms and inverts the white and black colors, leaving the emoji with a look similar to Venom’s toothy grin. The only thing the face is missing is Venom’s long, flickering tongue.

After months of sneak attacks by Ciampa, Gargano finally stepped in the ring with his former DIY tag team partner the night before last year’s Wrestlemania at NXT TakeOver: New Orleans, where he wore entrance gear inspired by Thor: Ragnarok.

A lot of people have been asking for it. So here's an up close shot of my special entrance gear for #NXTTakeOver: New Orleans..

Ciampa-Gargano II took place in the very same city where Ciampa first betrayed Gargano, for NXT TakeOver: Chicago 2, with Gargano channeling Captain America. With the series tied up at one win apiece, tonight’s highly-anticipated match could very well mark the end of this heated rivalry.

Fans will be waiting to see whether Gargano emerges from the backstage area looking like Tom Hardy in Sony’s upcoming Venom movie.
